This article briefly describes the functionality present in the following versions of groja.com:

  • Version 1, launched in 2002, can draw an image but has no navigation, no database, and is strictly PHP/HTML (no CSS)
  • Version 2, launched in 2006, is integrated with PHP Nuke, which includes site navigation and a MySql database
  • Version 3, launched in 2008, is integrated with joomla!, which includes navigation, a database, and regular security updates

Due to security concerns, only the latest version is currently available online at seeourminds.com.

Next Steps for tomhartung.com Print

Well I was about halfway through creating this template when Joomla! A User's Guide by Barrie M. North, the book I ordered from amazon.com, arrived. So I had to reluctantly put things on hold for a few days to read a few chapters of that.

Chapter 9 of the book takes the reader through the steps of creating a template more or less from scratch, rather than by changing an existing template, which was what I did. It's tempting to go through those steps, because I am now comfortable with the process and really enjoy working with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), but for the time being I have other goals.

So rather than create another template, I'm thinking the next step will be to create a couple of modules. These are the thingies that you see in the columns on the right and left sides of the page.

The Login Form, Random Image, and Poll features are modules that came with the default installation of joomla!, and I have a couple of ideas for ones I'd like to write.... However, of course I will have to read the chapter on them before getting started, so it will be a few days before I get back to the fun stuff, and I don't want to get too far ahead of myself before learning more about what joomla! is all about!

Now what I really should do is check out the site in Internet Explorer, and I will do that eventually, but because I have multiple websites running off of one server ("virtual hosts" in apache terms) and run a mostly Linux/Mac environment, that unfortunately is a bit problematic, and for the time being will just have to wait....
